The Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Amendment Rules, 2017 were notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to further amend the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016. The amendment expanded the import permissions for certain recyclable solid plastic wastes by extending eligibility from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to Export Oriented Units (EOUs). It also included Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) under Basel Code B3010 in Schedule III and made corresponding changes in Schedule VI. These amendments were introduced to facilitate regulated import and environmentally sound recycling of specified plastic waste while strengthening compliance with waste management and transboundary movement regulations.
