IRC:99-1988 provides tentative guidelines for the planning, design, placement, construction, signing, marking and maintenance of speed breakers used to control vehicular speeds on minor roads. It addresses suitable locations such as minor-road intersections, residential areas, educational and hospital campuses, accident-prone locations, sharp curves, railway crossings and approaches to temporary diversions or weak bridges.
